Creating predictive models for underground water/wastewater infrastructures

Research Abstract

Water/wastewater infrastructure in developed countries is rapidly aging, with many sewer and drinking water systems approaching or exceeding their design lifespans. Due to limited manpower and financial constraints, comprehensive replacement or repair is not feasible, and there is an urgent need for predictive tools and effective indicators that enable proactive maintenance and risk-based resource allocation. This study develops predictive models for underground pipeline degradation. The focus includes sewer pipelines and drinking water pipelines, with corrosion assessed from both internal and external sources.
